Next Community Meeting:
August 7th, 2008 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Topic - GOVERNANCE

Who will govern our schools? Who should be on the School Board – teachers, parents, administrators, community members? How many of each and who decides? Are they selected or elected? What models result in schools that excel? What are the legal requirements?

Remember when LAUSD and LMU promised us help with research on these issues? Well, the promise has been fulfilled! WPEF is delighted to provide a forum for a presentation by Samantha Brown to the Family of Schools regarding the make up and selection of school governance boards.

Ms. Brown is an Education Pioneer Fellow on loan to LMU this summer. We are lucky to have her expertise and dedication to the task for researching governance models for schools, collecting the information, and presenting it to us. Then the decisions are to be made at each school site - with all stakeholders involved!!!

Every school, parent, community member and any interested parties should attend this meeting – whether you are in IDivision yet or not. It’s your chance to gain important, practical information about establishing a governance board at ALL of our local public schools. Bring your questions and concerns.

This is probably the single most important part of autonomy. The sooner we are informed about leadership, the sooner we can leap into action and make our schools the very best they can be!.

What's Next:

Dr. Shane Martin, Dean of the School of Education, LMU will be our guest speaker for the September WPEF Meeting: BACK TO SCHOOL

WPEF has again surveyed the teachers in our Family of Schools to determine what the needs are for the 2008-2009 school year.
