Loyola Marymount University Announces Executive Director LOS ANGELES, June 4, 2007 – The Loyola Marymount University School of Education announced today that Drew Furedi will serve as the executive director of the LMU Family of Schools. Furedi, who has most recently served as a strategic partner with The New Teacher Project in Los Angeles, a national non-profit consulting group, will officially begin his post part-time in July and begin full time August 1, 2007. In his role as executive director, Furedi will be responsible for collaborating with all the partners involved, including the Los Angeles Unified School District, the seven Westchester public schools, the Westchester/Playa Education Foundation (WPEF) , the Westchester Neighborhood Council Education Committee, member schools and other stakeholders. He will work to develop a plan of action for the LMU Family of Schools and then implement projects and programs to improve the quality of student life and student learning, leading to increased attendance and graduation rates in the Westchester schools. “I’m thrilled to join the Loyola Marymount family,” Furedi said. “I look forward to working with all the partners involved on what is the most important endeavor our schools can undertake.” While with TNTP, Furedi implemented programs to recruit, select, train, place and support hundreds of mid-career professionals interested in teaching in the nation's hardest-to-staff public schools. Prior to TNTP, Furedi worked with Americorps programs on national service program development and review; developed municipal, state, and federal youth policy with national nonprofits; and worked in local and regional policy development and advocacy. His commitment to public education and related issues was solidified through his involvement in Teach For America where he taught in Baltimore. Furedi earned a B.A. in political science from UC Santa Barbara and an M.P.A. from the University of Southern California. |
